Friction returns to the Shogun studios to present a brand new series of releases that will see him collaborate with a host of his favourite producers from across the electronic music spectrum. Available digitally and as strictly limited edition vinyl picture discs, ‘Friction Vs’ offers the chance to step inside the minds of some of the most revered heads in the business as they don the controls to deliver some hybrid brand D&B, fresh for 2014.

For the very first outing Friction draws in a duo that need little introduction. Total Science are what jungle drum & bass legends are made of, with a pioneering discography stemming back to the mid 90’s. Here the results are simply outstanding as ‘Scatter’ seeps experience, a pure unadulterated dance floor roller, keeping things strictly for the underground.

Tag team rules as new Shogun signings Fourward then step into the ring along with one of the most unique voices in the game, Jakes. ‘Battle Scars’ is a dirty, low-slung, tech excursion perfect for the late night marching crew and makes for the downright dangerous ending for the first volume in this new ground breaking new series.

Fine for home listening, but DJs be warned. This set is a mixed bag in terms of sound quality. Nasty Habits sounds like a vinyl rip (and not a good one). 'Reach out' is also poor quality. It's not just the age of the tunes - I download stuff from zinc and metalheadz and it sounds great (you can get great quality downloads of old jungle tracks when it's done the right way). This is varied - some sound amazing and others aren't good enough to have decent mix with - muddy and unclear. pistachios
